Despite being cancelled in 2003, fans will never, ever, ever let Firefly truly die. The Browncoat fandom was out in full force at New York Comic Con this weekend, where Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, and Jewel Stait reunited for a panel about the gone-but-not-forgotten show.
As per usual, they had to field questions about the possibility of a second season. With all of the shows being resurrected these days, it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility, but let’s just say highly unlikely. However, they seem to love the show as much as the fans do, and Variety reports that at least the cast members present are down to fly through the ‘verse again at some point.
“Full-time, please,” Fillion said.
“Otherwise they would cast new people,” Staite said.
“And nobody wants that,” Torres added, to thunderous applause.
Staite also told a charming story about Fillion stealing things from the set, which, while frowned upon in the industry, seems like the right course of action in this situation.
“The set was not destroyed, it was dismantled,” [the] thesp laughed. “I saw a man taking things of the wall and that was Nathan. He had no shame just ripping things off the wall. I should have done it too, but I’ve been in the business since I was 5 and the first thing I learned was you don’t do that.”
While it seems likely that Firefly will stay dead, it’s always nice to be reminded of something so shiny. It’s probably for the best, though. If fan expectations for Avengers: Age of Ultron broke Joss Whedon, what would more Firefly do to the poor man?
