Fans were able to let out a breath when HBO finally announced that the sixth season of Game of Thrones would be returning on April 24. But what about after that? What about a seventh season? Or an eighth season, even?? Well relax, nerds, because HBO is thisclose to picking up the series for two more seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, on Thursday at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told reporters that the network is nearing a deal for a two-season renewal.
This wouldn’t be the first time Game of Thrones was picked up for two seasons at a time. Seasons five and six were previously ordered by the network in 2014. No word yet on whether eight will be the final season or if George R.R. Martin will have even finally finished Winds of Winter by then.
