There aren’t many characters on HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones that have gone through more than Tyrion Lannister. Well … not without dying. But through wit and determination, the black sheep of the Lannister clan continues to not only evade death but thrive in every circumstance he’s found himself thrust into.
Now we have the perfect video summation of Tyrion’s six seasons of trials and tribulations, thanks to YouTube user TheGaroStudios. It’s easy to forget that at the start of season one, Tyrion was known for little else than his drinking and whoring. Upon his escape from the Vale, his father wasted no time placing him in the vanguard of the Lannister army where he faced the greatest chance of dying in battle. That tells you a lot about the relationship between the two.
But with his brother Jaime captured in the Battle of the Whispering Woods, Tywin was forced to turn to Tyrion to help pull the family through dark times. Tyrion was named Hand of the king while Tywin warred with the Starks, and he defended King’s Landing from Stannis’ invasion, using wildfire to destroy the rebel Baratheon fleet. That didn’t save him from becoming a patsy after King Joffrey’s assassination, but it did catch the eye of Varys, who brought him over to Daenerys Targaryen’s side where he quickly became Hand of the queen.
It’s been a wild six seasons. Who knows what will happen over the remaining two. But if anyone has a chance of surviving George R.R. Martin’s deadly treatise on war and power, it’s Tyrion Lannister.
