Millennials who were raised by the Disney Channel during the mid-2000s — or mid-noughties, if you’re British-inclined — will be happy to know that the stars of the hit show That’s So Raven are, in fact, friends in real life. At least, they’ve been caught acknowledging each other in public by the Hollywood Reporter.
Raven-Symoné, who surprised Oprah Winfrey with her preference against using “African-American” as a label in October, and Anneliese van der Pol were found together on the red carpet of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Respect Awards in New York on Monday night.
Van der Pol told The Hollywood Reporter that the two Disney Channel stars have been hanging out often while in Los Angeles, “but nobody knows about it because we were always in a car or at one of our houses or something!” Now that they’re both in New York, they’re hitting parties and plays around the Big Apple.
“We’re closer than ever — people are just now seeing it, I think! We talk about everything and we really call each other out when we’re messing up,” she said.
If you were an avid fan of That’s So Raven, the Disney Channel et al., or pretty much anything that was considered “children’s television” at the time, then this news probably excites you. If not, or if you just don’t care, then you have no soul.
