This year, for the job of post-Super Bowl entertainment, CBS looked to its two late night hosts, James Corden and Stephen Colbert. While Colbert will host a live broadcast of his show immediately after the game (probably around 10, accounting for the presentation of the Lombardi trophy), Corden will be airing a pre-taped version of his show, with several major guests.
The biggest news here is that Elton John will be appearing in one of Corden’s much-loved Carpool Karaoke segments. Past editions of this segment have included Justin Bieber, Iggy Azalea, and Adele, the last of which has become one of the biggest videos of 2016 so far, earning 61 million YouTube views (and counting), and smashing Bieber’s record for the most popular version of the bit:
Will Sir Elton’s appearance prove to be more popular than Adele’s? That remains to be seen, but out of all the performers to do this, John certainly has the deepest back catalog. I know it’s unlikely, but how cool would it be if they busted out a rendition of “Empty Garden (Hey, Hey, Johnny)?”
Also appearing on the show will be Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, and Adam DeVine, airing after Colbert, and the local news.
