Future The Daily Show host (at least according to the historically accurate document that is Hot Tub Time Machine 2) Jessica Williams was at the Vulture Festival in New York this past weekend to discuss 2 Dope Queens, her podcast with Phoebe Robinson. Williams also spoke about an encounter she had during the Peabody Awards, where a “popular actor” got a little too creepy.
I was doing the red carpet for the Peabody’s so I was doing interviews. I was doing an interview, and all of the sudden, this guy, this popular actor comes up behind me and just grabs me and just pulls me in towards him. I was literally talking to somebody, and was like, “What? What is happening?” And he was like, “Yeah, girl. You fine.” If I was at a f*cking bodega in Harlem and this happened to me, I would literally stab you. But because he’s a great actor, everybody’s, “Haha, that’s funny, right? Good one, you got touched.” (Via)
I’m sure there’s someone out there who’s cross-checking lists to see which actors were at the Peabody Awards, and how many of them came in contact with Williams on the red carpet. But the mystery creep isn’t the point of the story — it’s that this sort of nonconsensual behavior is accepted and, depending on how famous you are, even embraced. That’s unacceptable. Also, next year’s Peabody Awards should totally be held at a bodega in Harlem.
