John Oliver made sure to groan at the idea of being called a journalist during his appearance on CBS This Morning on Friday, almost as much as he groaned about the “John Oliver effect.” But it seems that it was the cap off of his interview is making more waves than anything, mostly due to the person responding.
You see, Charlie Rose and company brought up Donald Trump and the electoral process here in the United States, asking if the comedian had endorsed Donald Trump for the election. He did not and added in the following as quoted by THR:
Oliver, who has not yet interviewed any presidential candidate on his show, told CBS This Morning that Trump has “said everything he has to say” and has “no internal monologue.”
Oliver also called Trump an open book, adding: “That book doesn’t have that many interesting words in it.”
This did not sit well with Trump, jumping onto his medium of choice and striking back at the HBO host by calling his show “boring” and claiming that the producers and Oliver had already tried to get him to come on for an interview:
.@thehill John Oliver had his people call to ask me to be on his very boring and low rated show. I said "NO THANKS" Waste of time & energy!

Last Week Tonight writer and author of You Blew It!, Josh Gondelman, summed up what is likely the entire show’s reply to Trump with one Tweet:
@needlemensch @realDonaldTrump HAHAHHHAHAAHAH!

I fully expect for Oliver himself to address this in the opening moments of Last Week Tonight, then moving on to more important, funnier things.
