Josh McDermitt is an actor and comedian probably best known for his portrayal of Eugene Porter on AMC’s The Walking Dead, which returns this Sunday night at 9pm EST. You may have also seen him as a contestant on Last Comic Standing (he was a semi-finalist in the show’s 4th season), TV Land’s Retired at 35 and on the most recent season of Mad Men playing George Payton.
Josh was nice enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule recently to answer a few questions from us.
1. You walk into a bar. What do your order from the bartender?
One drink definitely brings out my inner douchebag. Like a douchebag, I’ll aggressively confront the bartender and ask how they make their Old Fashioned and, if it’s to my liking, I’ll order that. If I hate how they make it, I’ll order a single malt scotch and cry into it because I didn’t get the Old Fashioned I wanted.
2. Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter?
@TomHanks because sometimes he signs his tweets “Hanx.” My dad does the same thing with text messages even though his name is Mike.
3. What’s currently waiting for you on your DVR/TiVO?
Season 5 of Cheers. I’m way behind, but I can’t wait for Sam and Diane to get together. Those two are made for each other!
4. It’s your last meal — what are you going out with?
Something that will give me the meat sweats. I want the bastards killing me to smell my body for weeks.
5. What websites do you visit on a regular basis?
Soundcloud, Packers.com, Notabli so I can see pictures of my goddaughter, and Evite ’cause I GET INVITED TO PARTIES Y’ALL!!!
6. What’s the most frequently played song on your mobile device?
Toss up! Probably BACH, HANDEL, SUGAR RAY, you know… the classics.
7. The first face that comes to mind when you think “punchable”?
Bryant Gumbel
8. What’s the last thing you Googled?
Greg Gumbel
9. Dogs or cats?
If you have to ask, then you can’t afford it.
10. Best concert of your life was…?
I took my nephew to see The Wiggles Live! one year. He went apeshit along with every other kid in the theater. I don’t care who you are: experiencing that sort of excitement and electricity changes a man. It was the closest I can imagine to what seeing the Beatles must have been like. Creatively speaking, of course.
11. What book are you most likely to give as a gift?
None, because reading is for nerds, y’all, and I ain’t friendz with no nerds!
12. What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?
I offered somebody my first class seat on a plane once. He said no, which is good cause THEY SERVE COOKIES UP THERE.
13. South Park or Family Guy?
Lucas Bros. Moving Co.
14. You have an entire day to do whatever you want. What would you do?
Probably spend the day figuring out what to do because I didn’t plan this well. Then I’d take a nap and end the night at the bar in question #1
15. What movie can you not resist watching if it’s on?
The Big Lebowski. But it’s never “just on.”
16. The sports team or teams you’re most passionate about?
Green Bay Packers.
17. Where did you eat the best meal of your life?
Carolina’s Mexican food in Phoenix, AZ. Get the tortillas, y’all!
18. The last movie you saw in a theater?
Ghostbusters 30th anniversary. It was freakin’ awesome and holds up surprisingly well.
19. Who was your first celebrity crush?
Tom Selleck. I wanted that body hair for my own. Or Whitney Houston. But I would get her confused with Tina Turner because as a young boy I didn’t know they were two different people. And Tina’s video would come on TV and I would come running in from the other room and get let down. But my family noticed and they said I had a crush on Tina. But it was really Whitney, guys, you HAVE to believe me… Really!
20. What would you cook if Nic Cage was coming to your house for dinner?
I’d cook up a good time of friendship and camaraderie… I’d whip up a batch of Mai Tais and put out board games and when he walked in I’d say, “Well Baby-O, looks like this is Mai Tais and Yahtzee out here.” And then we’d make eye contact and laugh. Then I’d ask him to sign my Con-Air laser disc.
