As soon as the second season of Daredevil started streaming on Netflix early Friday morning, subscribers everywhere tried to pretend that they were still paying attention at work while binge-watching all 13 episodes. Everyone who managed to a) not get fired as a result of this sneaky method and b) finish the binge was treated to a prize — a 24-second teaser for Luke Cage, the next Marvel series to drop before the promised Defenders mini-series.
Mike Colter, who first played Cage in the highly successful first season of Jessica Jones, revealed the new premiere date for the Marvel/Netflix collaboration at the Daredevil second season premiere last week. The September 30 due date was a lot earlier than expected, which was a nice surprise, but it didn’t make up for the fact that fans hadn’t seen any official footage from the Cheo Hodari Coker-led show.
That changed when viewers were surprised to discover a teaser trailer consisting of a brief exchange between Cage and a bunch of armed thugs in a gym. Cage approaches the men as they draw their guns and says, “I guess you guys haven’t heard about me.” Apparently they haven’t, because they fire a few rounds into the man with impenetrable skin — causing the bullets to rip through Cage’s clothing and ricochet off of every breakable item in his vicinity.
Once the goons finish, Cage smirks, “I’m about sick of always having to buy new clothes.”
The teaser is only available to watch at Netflix. Until an embed becomes a available, here are a few choice shots from the scene.
