Good lord, you guys, last night’s Mad Men was filled with so much goodness, unlike last week’s exercise is confusion, that I don’t know where to begin. Let’s all pump our fists in the air and just get right to it, shall we?
– There are three things I’m dying to talk about here, so let me just get them out of the way. The first is, of course, Don and Betty hooking up again. Many, myself included, were convinced this would happen at some point, but I didn’t think it would happen this soon. But then again, the Betty we saw in this episode was very different from the Betty we’ve seen of late. This Betty feels sexy, confident and sure of herself, unlike Fat Betty, who was just kind of pathetic…
Anyway, I had a feeling Betty was going to do some fooling around after that fundraiser scene in which she seemed open to advances from a man not named Henry Francis. And when she and Don ran into each other at a gas station and she mentioned that Henry wasn’t coming until the following day, well, you just knew that Betty and Don were destined to enter the Bone Zone later that night. All the while this was building up I found myself screaming “NOOOOOOOOOOO!” in my head, but once it actually happened I kind of enjoyed it, particularly for the conversation the two had afterwards.
– “Why is sex the definition of being close to someone? Just because you climbed a mountain doesn’t mean you love it.” — Don Draper.
– The second thing I want to talk about is International Man of Mystery, Bob Benson. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Bob Benson tell Ken earlier in the season that his father had died? Because last night he told a story about a nurse bringing his father back to health. So the dude is either a super-shady, brown-nosing striver or an utter psychopath, which is basically what we all thought previously, it’s just that now we have absolute confirmation of the fact that he’s one of the two. And he may or may not be banging Joan, on top of that!
– From now on any man wearing short-shorts will be known for wearing “Bob Benson shorts.”
(UPDATE: Hours after this post went live a glitch in our publishing system caused a considerable portion of this post to vanish into thin air, never to be seen again. It’s too bad if you missed it –it was really great. Anyway, our apologies.)
