On Thursday, jurors in the murder trial of Michael Jace — the actor who appeared on FX’s critically-acclaimed series The Shield for the entirety of its run — heard transcripts of the 53-year old talking to detectives shortly after he murdered his wife April in 2014. In the transcripts, Jace is heard telling officers that he only wanted to hurt his wife, not kill her.
“I was just angry,” he said. “All I intended to do was shoot her in the leg. And then I shot her in the leg and that was it.”
Jace said that he was planning on killing himself with his wife’s father’s revolver, but when he couldn’t muster up the courage to go ahead with it, he turned his rage towards his wife. April Jace was shot twice in the legs and once in the back. One of the more chilling details to come from the trial is that Michael killed his wife in front of their two kids, then only eight and five-years old.
On Wednesday, Nehemiah Jace — now 10-years old — testified that Michael dragged April into the hallway then said, “If you like running, then run to heaven.”
April was an avid runner.
“Then he shot her,” the young Jace said.
In the transcripts, Michael could be heard saying, “I just ruined lives. Four lives. I mean, you could put the needle in my arm right now and be done. I’m fine with that.”
Michael Jace faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted for first-degree murder.
