The fallout from Steve Harvey’s supremely awkward Miss Universe mistake (which saw the wrong lovely lady crowned and de-crowned) quickly caused the internet to lose its mind. The dissection continues on how Harvey managed to misread the card, but one surprise has come of this mess. Donald Trump showed more class than we’d ever expect in any scenario.
The controversy isn’t over yet. Harvey may have made a genuine flub, but Miss Puerto Rico (Destiny Velez) landed in some hot water of her own design, which took place last week and is now part of the Miss Universe news cycle, despite her association being with the Miss America Organization. In response to Michael Moore’s #WeAreAllMuslim demonstration, Velez fired off a series of now-deleted anti-Muslim tweets (which were aimed towards Moore’s Twitter account).
Velez’s tweets included comments that made unfavorable comparisons between Christians and Muslims. She then said, “If we are the same then Muslims need to take the napkins off their heads cuz I feel offended by it.” A Twitter user posted this screencap of the rant:

The New York Daily News contains further details of tweets, which saw Velez claiming, “Muslims use our constitution to terrorize USA & plant gas stations … terrorize this country & many others.”
In response to the rant, the Miss Puerto Rico Organization issued a statement to announce Velez’s indefinite suspension from their competitions:
Recently, Miss Puerto Rico, Destiny Velez, issued a series of comments that the Miss Puerto Rico Organization does not condone, support, or agree with in any way. The comments are antithetical to the morals, ethics, and principles of the Organization, and we have suspended Ms. Velez indefinitely for her offensive and inappropriate actions.
“I apologize to the people I have offended with my words. I am first and foremost an #UpStander and as such I stand up againstbullying. The last thing I wanted to do was to bully anyone. Again, I apologize to anyone who felt offended with my words,” said Velez.
The organization also apologizes on Velez’s behalf in a further effort to distance themselves from her words.

Likewise, Moore acknowledged the announcement with a tweet.
