Gotham City’s ever reliable villain factory continues to pump out baddies with alarming efficiency. Now a press release from Fox (which is also a villain factory at times) has proclaimed that Nathan Darrow has been cast as Dr. Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze for this season of Gotham.

You may know Darrow best from his work on House of Cards as bodyguard to Kevin Spacey or you may know him best from a traumatic childhood accident that you two have kept secret for years and years. Either way, this guy is your new Mr. Freeze for the foreseeable future. It’s a role that’s previously been tackled by the likes of George Sanders and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

If Gotham‘s creative brass sticks to what it said last summer, this version of Mr. Freeze will be modified to fit the show’s edgy™ (but still fairly goofy) universe.

“My first conversation with [showrunner] Bruno Heller about the villains in this show is always that they need to be very credible and relatable and the science behind them needs to be real,” said executive producer Danny Cannon back in 2014. “So I had a couple of stories that I’d held onto – real, true stories – and one of them just related to Mr Freeze. I know a real way to create an origin story.”

TV Line chatted with Gotham EP John Stephens, noting that Mr. Freeze will pop up on the series before 2015 is through:

“The first time we see Freeze is in [the Nov. 30 episode], and then we’re going to be telling a heavy Freeze story in Episodes 12 and 13,”

Here’s the current character description for Gotham‘s take on Mr. Freeze. (SPOILER: It’s mostly what you think it is.)

“Though ferociously smart and eminently capable in his work as one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers, Victor struggles to make meaningful connections with others. The one exception is his wife, Nora (casting TBA), who has tragically fallen ill with a terminal disease,” reads the Mr. Freeze explainer text. “Victor’s love for Nora knows no bounds, so as her condition worsens, he goes to extreme measures to figure out a way to freeze her before she dies. This harrowing journey leads to his transformation into the legendary DC villain, Mr. Freeze.”

It will be ICE to meet him, etc.
