Ronan Farrow’s MSNBC program Ronan Farrow Daily and Joy Reid’s The Reid Report have been cancelled due to disappointing ratings.
Ronan Farrow Daily occupied the 1 PM time slot with The Reid Report as its closing act. Both programs premiered in February 2014 and lasted a little less than a year on the cable news network before their cancellation:
The network will move “Way Too Early” host Thomas Roberts to the 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. timeslot, where he’ll host a news show. The cancellation of both Farrow and Reid ends MSNBC’s year-long effort to make a hybrid of news and opinion work in the afternoon.
Audiences didn’t respond: Ratings for both hosts languished from their respective launches a year ago, with Farrow’s performance being worse than Reid.
Neither Farrow nor Reid will be leaving MSNBC altogether. Farrow will stay on at the network to host a series of primetime specials, and Reid will stay on as a contributor.
Here is a look back at Ronan Farrow’s premiere episode. He is Ronan Farrow. He was here daily, but not anymore.
