At this point, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler likely sit atop the heap of women in comedy. There’s a lot of names clawing for their position, sure, but it’s hard to go wrong when you put these two together on screen. It earned them three chances at hosting the Golden Globes, a stint as the first female duo to host “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live, and a few very funny movie hits to add to their resume. So is it any wonder that most fans love the duo whenever they are together?
Hell, they’re even pretty special when they’re apart. 30 Rock is arguably the greatest sitcom in the past 10 years, and Parks And Rec featured one of the best ensemble casts you’ll ever find on one show, lead by Amy Poehler’s energetic Leslie Knope.
So this Saturday’s return to SNL is a perfect storm for comedy fans and FeyPoe groupies alike (it’s a dumb portmanteau, but roll with it). Not only is it a Christmas episode for SNL, one that has featured a string of successful and funny performances over the past few years, it is also the return of some former cast members. That’s usually enough right, but these former cast members are also Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Critical darlings, successful comedians and creative thinkers. They’re not coming back to rehash old characters because they don’t really have many, so expect a lot of original sketches or takeoffs on current events. Or maybe we’ll get a new updated Mom Jeans ad? Who knows.
And finally Bruce Springsteen will be there and The Boss is still pretty damn cool. Should be good times.
