What the heck has Ronda Rousey been up to for the past year? We’re quickly approaching the 12-month mark since Rousey’s invincible persona was destroyed by a headkick from Holly Holm at UFC 193 last November. Since then the biggest star in the UFC has been almost completely absent from the spotlight.
Fans of the sport seem to almost enjoy the idea of her curled up in the fetal position somewhere ruminating over her loss. But as we’ve seen from appearances on Saturday Night Live and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover, she seems perfectly fine … just not all that interested in fighting again just yet.
Another activity she’s apparently taken up during her ass-whupping hiatus: knitting with 2 Broke Girls star Kat Dennings. Kat recently revealed on the Ellen show that she’s part of an interesting club with Rousey, and it’s not a fight club.
“So I started an unlikely knitting club,” she said. “Me and my very good friend Ronda Rousey have a knitting club. The two of us and a lot of our lovely friends, and it’s called The Yarn And The Restless. We’ve knitted a scarf! Well, here’s the truth. All these clubs I have are just wine clubs. It’s under the blanket of knitting, literally and not. We just knit a scarf and get drunk and make friend memories.”
Knitting doesn’t seem to be the only friend memories being made with the two. A picture shown during the Ellen segment seemed to show Kat and Ronda in Renaissance Fair garments. That’s right, the Thor star and UFC star like to get medieval together, and somehow this didn’t make the news. It’s just another way Ronda Rousey manages to hold onto her pound for pound greatest geek fighter title despite not fighting for so long.
But as for a return to the Octagon, we may not have to wait much longer. While nothing is official, the UFC is hoping Ronda Rousey returns to the cage for their big end of year show on Dec. 30 against current champ Amanda Nunes.
