Often when looking back on the making of a hit show, there are interesting acting alternatives brought up. While it’s tough to imagine anyone but Taraji P. Henson playing Cookie on Empire, it was very possible that the role could have gone to someone else. Mo’Nique has made claim to the role before, but this convenient footage shows that James Corden was also up for it and took a few of his lines a little too seriously when trying to compete with Taraji for the role.
Unfortunately for Corden, he didn’t realize just how second nature Cookie was for Taraji. Turns out it’s hard out here for an actor trying to take any roles from her, especially if their biggest movie credit involved being overshadowed by Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep.
