The Season 5 finale of Game of Thrones was controversial and brutal and busy and sad and maddening (for some people), but in addition to all those things, it was also at least one other thing: a massive hit with people downloading it illegally. From TorrentFreak:
Data gathered by TorrentFreak shows that during the first eight hours, the season finale has been downloaded an estimated 1.5 million times already.
Never before have we seen this many downloads in such a short period of time, and last year it took half a day to reach the same number. Based on this figure, the download count is expected to increase to more than 10 million during the days to come.
I’m no mathematician or internet piracy expect, but according to my calculations, 10 million people is a lot of people. Like, for anything. Think of it this way: If you took everyone single person who TorrentFreak estimates will illegally download the Game of Thrones Season 5 finale and stacked them all on top of each other, it would be really, really tall. So tall. And the person on the bottom would probably crumple under the weight and die. And then the whole tower would come down, 10 million people just flailing about in terror as they tumble out of the sky. Tons of casualties. A tragedy of epic proportions.
Hope that helps put the figures in perspective.
