What do we know so far about AMC’s big fancy Walking Dead companion series, Cobalt? Well, number one, we know that it will take place in sunny Los Angeles, in the same fictional universe as the original. Number two, we know that actor Cliff Curtis will play the male lead, a divorced teacher and “a good man who tries to do right by everyone in his life,” whatever exactly that means. And now to those we can add a number three: the female lead — a guidance counselor who is in a relationship with Curtis’s character, has two children from a previous marriage, and “looks like the girl next door but has a darkness to her, a troubled past that will come back to haunt her” (I mean, obviously) — will be played by actress Kim Dickens.
You may recognize Dickens from, well, a bunch of places. She played Colette Jane on Sons of Anarchy, Matt Saracen’s mom on Friday Night Lights, and the delightfully named character Detective Rhonda Boney in Gone Girl, among many other performances over a 20-year career in the industry. So, yes, this is all coming together. All that’s left is some zombie smashing. That’s the easy part.
