When it comes to adaptation source material, there’s a lot of love in Hollywood for the Grimm stories. In fact, in 2005, the material was used as the basis of a film starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger. Now, 10 years later, the folks at Miramax have decided to turn that very same movie into a TV series.
From Deadline:
Miramax has tapped screenwriter Ehren Kruger (The Ring, Transformers 2, 3, 4) to bring The Brothers Grimm to television. Kruger, who penned the screenplay for the 2005 feature film starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger, will build off the origin story introduced in the pic that grossed over $105 million globally. The new series will follow the swashbuckling adventures of brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, who discover startling mythology and supernatural stakes behind the folklore sweeping 19th century Europe.
At the moment, Miramax doesn’t have a network lined up for the new series. However, given that the original film was a PG-13 period piece, it seems likely the studio will shoot for one of the big five to partner with. Though it’s doubtful one of those networks will be NBC, given Grimm is still airing on that particular network.
