I’m not (too) ashamed to admit it: I still watch Family Guy. Why? Is it because I’m already tuned into The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and American Dad!, so might as well connect the “Animation Domination” four? Or is it because I know there’s going to be at least one excellent episode a season (this season: “Brian’s Play”; last season: “Back to the Pilot”), even if it’s surrounded by offensive hackiness disguised as jokes? Or is it because of the warm and fuzzy nostalgic feelings I still have for seasons one-three, before Fox cancelled the show?
I dunno, but it’s like that time Chubby Checkers went to Arby’s. *drifts off for 15 seconds* Anyway, one of the most disappointing aspects of the later-era Family Guy episodes is how often the writers return to Peter’s greatest enemy: morbid obesity. Also, the giant chicken that he first fought in “Da Boom.” The one-joke character has since appeared 12 MORE TIMES. That’s like if The Simpsons checked in with Kang and Kodos every season. (Oh wait.)
Beside, the animated chicken has become obsolete, now that two real-life stuntwomen, Jessie Graff and Tree O’Toole, have restaged the chicken fight scene, thanks to a Indiegogo campaign. Is it great? Oh yeah.
