Last week, I posted a clip from “Good Morning America” in which a part-time aesthetician discussed injecting her 8-year-old daughter with botox to compete in beauty pageants. Botox injections, of course, are supposed to be performed by doctors or under the supervision of a doctor and are not approved by the FDA for use on children.
It’s heartening, then, that Child Protective Services has launched an investigation into Kerry Campbell and taken her daughter, Britney (of course her name is Britney) into custody. Apparently, going on national TV and announcing you’re illegally giving your child unnecessary cosmetic procedures with illegally obtained botox for the already f*cked-up practice of children’s beauty pageants is not the best way to continue your parenting habits.
A person with knowledge of the situation told ABC News that the girl, Britney, is doing well but did not offer more detail on the ongoing investigation into the girl’s mother…
The launching of an investigation into Campbell does not mean that she will lose custody of her child, experts say. She could be redirected to parenting classes or nothing could happen at all if the botox was being administered lawfully, experts say. [ABC News]
So it’s not quite a happy ending just yet. I would have liked this story a lot better if CPS agents had a license to kill. But then, deadly force is my solution for everything. I guess I’m old-fashioned that way.
