Back when the millennium was something we all touted as awesome, and when TRL ruled the airwaves, two names battled for supremacy of the pop charts: Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. The thing we didn’t know at the time was that we only needed one of them to fill both roles.
Aguilera proves as much during this visit to The Tonight Show, after she is tasked with imitating the likes of Cher, Shakira, and Spears, handily owning each. We could’ve just skipped all of that shaved head, Kevin Federline nonsense and just let Aguilera play the dirt ball Spears part all those years ago. It could’ve been a Chris Gaines situation, with X-Tina pulling the Spears duty and the squeaky clean Christina portraying the genie in the bottle.
Also, there’s a Michael McDonald reference during this skit, and I’m always a sucker for a good Michael McDonald impersonation, even if none will top Jenna Maroney from 30 Rock.
