The most important thing about this Sunday is that it’s one week away from next Sunday, which is when Breaking Bad returns.
Newsroom (HBO, Sunday) — Two episodes down, and I still don’t see why the critics loathe it. This episode, however, will be a major test: If I still like it after an episode heavily featuring Jane Fonda — who irrationally gets under my skin — then I’m in it for the long haul.
True Blood (HBO, Sunday) — You know what still confounds me about this series, which is one of the worst things on premium cable? That it came from the same mind who brought us one of the best things on premium cable, “Six Feet Under.” Did Alan Ball suffer a major head trauma sometime during the middle part of the last decade?
Twenty Twelve (BBCA, Saturday) — (First season finale) I’d seriously been looking forward to this series — a BBC mockumentary about the organization of the London Olympics — for weeks, and then I totally forgot about it (why isn’t BBCA hounding us with press releases?) Has anyone caught any of it? Any good? The second season also premieres Sunday morning at 12:40 a.m., so clearly, BBCA is putting a lot of effort into getting people to watch. Jeez.
Weeds (Showtime, Sunday) — I liked everything about last week’s eighth-season premiere — the return to the suburbs; the fun dark comedy; and the fact that it was (SPOILER) Nancy who got shot — except the identity of the shooter? Major anti-climax. WHERE’S CONRAD?
Longmire (A&E, Sunday) — Do you like “Castle,” but think it’s too urban and fast-paced? Well, have I got a show for you!
Yankees vs. Red Sox (ESPN) — The last game leading into the All-Star break would be a lot more meaningful if the Sox weren’t already seven-and-a-half games out. Hopefully by the time Sunday night rolls around, that number will be five and a half.
