With the Rio Olympic games in full swing, we’ve already celebrated the achievements of United States athletes such as Michael Phelps, who won the gold medal in the 200 meter butterfly and the women’s gymnastics team, which dominated for gold once again. In the spirit of the Olympics, it’s always nice to reflect back on previous years’ games, however in the case of the video above, it’s not so much the athletic accomplishments we’re looking back on fondly as it is the various media outlets covering the games.
There’s no better time for television news bloopers than the Olympics, as evidenced in this supercut from News Be Funny. Between excited (and disappointed) athletes dropping swear bombs, enthusiastic fans interfering with live reports (and also dropping swear bombs), mascots going rogue, and reporters not knowing how to pronounce complicated sounding names from these countries they’ve never heard of, it’s pretty much a recipe for disaster.
The 12-minute-long clip collects some of the greatest gaffes from over the years — from Rio to Sochi to Beijing to Atlanta. And remember, we’ve still got two more weeks of this in Rio, so we can expect many more fine bloopers headed our way.
