Last month, using an incredibly scientific process that is too complex for the average man’s mind to even remotely comprehend, we determined that 2014 was simply The Year of Yankovic. Parody king “Weird” Al Yankovic not only released the first independent album of his career, but he proved that even in this YouTube era in which everyone is a comedian, he’s still the gold standard to which all other comics, satirists and parody artists must bow before. With his new album, “Mandatory Fun,” Weird Al released eight new music videos over eight days and absolutely dominated the Internet with each new laugh. Oh, and if all that wasn’t enough, he earned the first No. 1 album of his amazing career.
It was very easy to name Weird Al our Person of the Year for 2014, and today we are incredibly humbled and elated that Weird Al personally accepted this honor that we have bestowed upon him. Long live the king, and may the music world continue to make sure that he’s at no shortage of music to mock with each new album.
