Is Fedor Emelianenko Hinting At That Long-Awaited Brock Lesnar Fight?

Ever since Brock Lesnar made his MMA debut, fans and pundits have been calling on him to fight arguably the greatest heavyweight in MMA history, Fedor Emelianenko. The two superstars fighting would make for the biggest fight in MMA history, but the legendary Russian has been notoriously picky with who and where he fights in his career, even with massive amounts of money offered to him to fight in the UFC after the Japanese promotion Pride fell (and after Strikeforce crumbled).

It’s a “what could’ve been” scenario that still intrigues MMA Fans five years after Brock’s “last” fight, and it continues to get brought up even throughout Fedor’s on again, off again retirement. Now, excuse the alliteration, but fuel has been thrown on that fascinating flame.

In his typical, stoic fashion, Fedor just perked the ears of millions. When asked about Brock’s return, Fedor made perhaps the most to the point statement ever regarding the fighter and pro wrestler.

“Brock is an interesting opponent. Maybe our paths will cross again.”

Well, their paths never really crossed in the first place. Maybe there is something lost in translation there or maybe it’s more about the fact that UFC Fight Pass will be broadcasting Fedor’s main event fight against Fabio Maldonado on June 17. After years of bad-mouthing, the promotion has been solidly behind the marketing for this fight, and it will probably draw plenty of eyes to their service.

Is this something to get excited about? Not yet, but in this crazy fight game, who knows? Maybe a fight could be made in time for the Madison Square Garden event in November. Both men are past their prime, with losses ruining the aura of what was once the most anticipated matchup in the history of the sport, but even in 2016, this would be the biggest fight of the year. Maybe still of all-time.
