Earlier in June, rumors started swirling that Marvel Studios was considering putting the original Thor‘s director Kenneth Branagh back in the director’s chair for Thor: Ragnarok. The only impediment noted was Branagh’s potential involvement with the film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Murder On The Orient Express, a project with more than enough petticoats and period mustaches to draw Kenneth away.
But according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, there’s a much bigger issue with Branagh returning: the rumor is “Not true.” Via Collider:
Feige says, “probably towards the end of the summer we would announce a filmmaker and a writer. May be the same person, I don’t know, may be two different people.”

As to the recent rumor that they would bring back Kenneth “Unnecessary Canted Angles” Branagh for another Thor film, Feige responded, “Not true. I don’t know where that came from.”
Probably the Department Of Assumptions That Just Make Sense. Branagh did a good job of launching Thor and recently netted Disney some megabucks with his live action Cinderella remake. So why not? But since these Marvel films are becoming more and more special effect driven, it might make more sense to pick someone who specializes in that rather than Shakespearean period pieces. Someone with a bit more Michael Bay in them. Not too much, mind you. Just a little bit more.
