Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier had a really nice month of June. He hit .263 with 10 home runs, was the best defensive player in the majors over the course of the month, and did not get attacked by any New York pigeons while playing against the Yankees.
However, it’s a new month, and while it remains to be seen if he can stay hot at the plate and in the field, his streak of “consecutive months without a pigeon attack” has been broken. While Kiermaier was standing at first base during Tampa Bay’s game against New York on Friday, a bird swooped in and caught the outfielder so off guard that he fell to the ground.
The good news was this happened right after Kiermaier drove in a run late in the game. The bad news was that it was all for naught, as the Rays fell to the Yankees in extra innings last night.
