If you were at South By Southwest this past spring, you probably had the opportunity to check out Todd Strauss-Schulson’s The Final Girls. After premiering to fairly good reviews at the festival, this extremely meta horror-comedy has a new trailer hitting the web before it’s sometime-in-October release date.
Part-Last Action, part-The Cabin in the Woods, The Final Girls sees Max (Taissa Farmiga) and her group of friends transported inside a schlocky 1980s slasher flick — a movie that just so happens to star Max’s recently deceased mother (played by Malin Akerman, Watchmen). There’s looks to be plenty of messing around with tropes from both teen romance flicks and horror movies but, unfortunately, seemingly no buddy cop team ups featuring a human and a cartoon cat. But, I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I’m still holding out hope.
The Final Girls also stars Adam Devine (Comedy Central’s Workaholics) and Alexander Ludwig (Lone Survivor).
