Looks like cultural icon Grace Jones is just about tired of today’s scantily clad pop divas getting lauded for stretching boundaries she already broke through during her heyday, when simply showing an ankle got women called a harlot. The 67-year-old audacious entertainer, known for her roles in Bond’s A View to Kill, Conan the Destroyer and Boomerang, blasted Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and all the other singers we’ve seen naked in her new autobiography, I’ll Never Write My Memoirs.

In an excerpt posted on Time Out, the “Pull Up to My Bumper” singer says most of today’s hottest acts are stars chasing trends, and are nothing more than her unoriginal clones who push the envelop because of how cool it is now.

She writes:

I come from the underground. I am never comfortable in the middle of the stream, flowing in the same direction as everyone else. I think people assume that’s where I want to be, famous for being famous, because as part of what I do there is a high level of showing off. But my instinct is always to resist the pull of the obvious. It’s not easy.

Jones asserts her edgy appearance and attitude came from a place of wanting to be “daring” and a pioneer, whereas Miley and the rest are chasing fame and money.

Trends come along and people say, ‘Follow that trend’. There’s a lot of that around at the moment: ‘Be like Sasha Fierce. Be like Miley Cyrus. Be like Rihanna. Be like Lady Gaga. Be like Rita Ora and Sia. Be like Madonna.’ I cannot be like them – except to the extent that they are already being like me.

I have been so copied by those people who have made fortunes that people assume I am that rich. But I did things for the excitement, the dare, the fact that it was new, not for the money, and too many times I was the first, not the beneficiary.

She also goes on to reveal how she turned down a chance to work with a popular artist because it wouldn’t be beneficial to have the unnamed star steal her style. In a quote that is now my favorite of all-time, Grace commented, “If the f*ck don’t feel right, don’t f*ck it.” Words to live by.
