On Friday, we reported the history of complaints against NYPD officer James Frascatore, the officer who body slammed ex-tennis pro James Blake on Wednesday, and now it appears as though the video of the incident in Manhattan has surfaced.
In the clip you see Blake minding his own business outside of a hotel when Frascatore aggressively approaches him and violently throws him to the ground and handcuffs him.
Blake told the New York Daily News his account of what went down which seems to be in line with the video.
“Maybe I’m naïve, but I just assumed it was someone I went to high school with or someone who was running at me to give me a big hug, so I smiled at the guy,” Blake said.
He was adamant that the officer never said a word: “No, just rushed me.”
The unidentified officer picked Blake up, threw the 6-foot-1 player down on the sidewalk and commanded him to roll over face down.
“I’m going to do whatever you say,” Blake recalled telling the cop. “I’m going to cooperate. But do you mind if I ask what this is all about?”
Deputy Commissioner Stephen Davis released this statement regarding the releasing of the video.
The NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau interviewed James Blake last night. The NYPD is releasing video footage from the September 9thincident outside of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan. A copy of the video was provided to Mr. Blake’s attorney. The investigation is still ongoing.
Frascatore was stripped of his gun and badge and placed on desk duty pending an investigation.
Blake was misidentified for another man who was thought to be involved in a credit card fraud ring, but it turns out, the Blake look-alike wasn’t guilty either.
