Now that the most recent episode of The Walking Dead, “Now,” has concluded, and no answer has been provided to the season’s most pressing question, it’s become apparent that showrunner Scott Gimple is delaying the answer as long as possible. Last week’s flashback episode surrounding Morgan wasn’t just a stall between the cliffhanger and its resolution, it was another chapter in the middle of a story arc. The Walking Dead fans desperate to find out the fate of Glenn, in fact, may have to wait until the end of the month.
This half season is taking place over the course of one day, a day that began with the zombie’s breaking free from valley and heading toward Alexandria. The second episode, “JSS,” saw the Alexandrians deal with the Wolves. The third episode jumped back to Glenn and Michonne dealing with the zombie horde, ending with Glenn seemingly dead. But, we know that the series will return to that dumpster scene. The fourth episode took a break from the present action to flash back to Glenn, and the fifth episode, “Now,” returned to Alexandria, where the zombies have encircled the community.
No one is going to get out and find Glenn until those zombies are removed. The zombies won’t be removed until Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham return. Next week’s episode, the sixth, will likely see Daryl and Co. deal with the half of the zombie horde that is following them. The seventh episode will likely see them return to Alexandria and deal with the other half of the zombies, meaning no one is going to get clear of Alexandria to begin the search for Glenn until the midseason finale.
So, when will we finally find out the fate of Glenn (and probably Enid)? November 29th. After Thanksgiving.
In the meantime, do your best to enjoy and appreciate the episodes in between for what they are, rather than as time-killers until we await the fate of Glenn. There’s a decent chance that we might lose another — Sasha, Abraham, Aaron, or Morgan — along the way.
