Chris Hemsworth is pretty much the perfect Norse god, but his Thor has yet to star in a truly great solo movie. In particular, Thor: The Dark World was kind of a muddled, dreary mess. Clearly some changes need to be made for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, and Hemsworth has some ideas of what those changes should be. Basically, he thinks the movie should be a Norse Guardians of the Galaxy…
“I think Thor 3 needs to be injected with that sort of smart wit and unexpected kind of humor, kind of what James Gunn came in and did with Guardians. It was like off center and unpredictable, and I think we can definitely use a dose of that, you know?”
Hemsworth also went into what he thought went wrong with Thor: The Dark World.
“I feel we had less of the sort of the naivety or fun or humor that the first Thor might have had. I wish we had more of that in the second. We’ve done regal. We’ve done Shakespeare, and we’ve shown that. I think now it’s time to go, ‘Okay, cool. Let’s try something different.’”
Hemsworth’s dreams of a different, wackier Thor movie are likely to come true, as Ragnarok is being directed by New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi, the man behind Boy and the amazing vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows (seriously, you need to watch that sh*t). So yeah, if the next Thor is mostly Rhys Darby from Flight of the Conchords doing improv with Kat Dennings, well, you’ll know why.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters July 28, 2017.
