Finally, a chance to prove you love Star Wars and hate sleeping.
The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas — where Coach Taylor will scold you for talking or using your phone — is running a contest for everyone except Madonna. All you have to do is watch George Lucas’ entire sci-fi franchise on repeat until you doze off; whoever stays up the longest, wins. Half of that sounds great (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi), half sounds terrible (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith). Instead of Clones, um, can we watch The Clone Wars?
There’s one catch: It’s not all seven movies, including The Force Awakens, on a loop. It’s the first six, then Episode VII over and over and over and over again.
Anybody 21-and-up from any of the 13 states where Alamo has a theater can apply to enter the competition. The contest will begin at 4:45 a.m. on Dec. 17. Alamo’s plan is to screen all the Star Wars live-action feature films starting with Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Contestants then will be among the first to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens when the public screening embargo lifts that same afternoon after they have watched Episodes I-VI.
Then The Force Awakens will play again … and again … and again. (Via Entertainment Weekly)
The sleep-deprived contest will be held at the Alamo’s South Lamar location in Austin, and the winner receives, among other items, free movie screenings for seven years. Just in time for 73 more Star Wars films to come.
Here’s how to enter. Oh, and taking illegal drugs will result in immediate disqualification. Leave your 8-ball of bantha poodoo at home.
