When it comes to the filmmakers of Marvel Studios, it’s quite possible that no one has been as eager or happy to interact with fans as Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn. Ever since he joined the blockbuster juggernaut, he’s been more than happy to answer fan questions, deny casting rumors, and more-or-less constantly participate in the often turbulent world of fandom.
So, when Gunn did a Facebook Q&A on Wednesday, he was bound to provide at least a little bit of fun, and he didn’t disappoint. There’s plenty to love about the videos he posted, from chatting about Kurt Russell’s possible involvement in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to his leaving Thanos out of the picture for the sequel, but the most interesting tidbit for most Marvel fans is when he opens up about having seen Captain America: Civil War, aka the Most Anticipated Movie of the Spring:
“I saw Civil War, and I think it’s incredible,” Gunn said. “It’s one of the best Marvel movies ever, and I can’t believe how…uh, what a wonderful job the Russo Brothers did, and the cast. Oh my God, they’re so good. So, it’s an amazing film, and people are going to be really excited to see that come summertime. It’s really great.”
That Gunn would praise a fellow Marvel production isn’t exactly surprising, but what about the biggest news to come from Civil War so far: The return of Spider-Man to Marvel Studios? Well, he might just be gushing, but Gunn swears that the new Peter Parker — Tom Holland — is worth the wait.
“Tom Holland is off the charts awesome. Truly. Hand to my heart, he’s amazing.”
Captain America: Civil War will be released in May, and we’ll all see for ourselves, but for the moment we have the word of a filmmaker who’s also a major fanboy to get us excited.
