One really fun part of being a beloved television character with a catch phrase must be having that catch phrase yelled at you, constantly, wherever you go. Oh, did I say fun? I meant “incredibly tedious and annoying.” The always fabulous Retta, currently appearing on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, stopped by to chat with Seth Meyers on Wednesday night where she was asked about her own catchphrase on Parks and Recreation, which several audience members screamed out at the very hint of.
When asked how often per day she hears “Treat Yo Self,” Retta says, “If I don’t hear it 10 times a day… I haven’t left my house.” She also says that her fans, true to form, always think they’re the first one who ever thought of saying it to her. She says, “I love that people think that they’re, like, discovering new land with it. I’ll post a new purse that I bought that they’re like, ‘Girl, you know what you just did, right?'”
To be fair to enthusiastic Parks and Rec fans, most of us would probably have trouble restraining ourselves when put in the position of coming face to face with Retta. At least, as a lover of good television, she seems to take it with little more than a sense of humor and slight eyeroll.
