When David Bowie passed away Monday morning, countless stars and fans alike rushed to express their love and admiration for the icon. Artists from all genres told the world how much Bowie meant to them, how he helped them when they struggled, and how he inspired them to make better music.
One of the many artists affected by the loss was Flea, bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. A rock icon in his own right, Flea tweeted about what Bowie meant to him, the impact he had on his music, and his interactions with Bowie. Flea also included a picture of Bowie, himself and RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis all smiling for the camera.

Later on Monday evening, Flea shared a new tattoo commemorating what Bowie meant to him on his Instagram account. It was a simple tattoo on his forearm in black ink, with Bowie’s last name forever etched onto the bassist’s arm.
While Bowie was smart enough to know just how big his impact on the world was, artists like Flea only confirmed as much. They expressed just how much he meant to them as an artist, innovator and inspiration. His impact on the industry will be felt for generations to come.
