“Would this be so weird if this was the way you died?” is probably the last thing a talk show host wants to hear from his interview subject, but then again, T.J. Miller is not a normal interview subject. Well known for his live, televised hi-jinx, Stephen Colbert seemed to know well what he was getting into Thursday night when inviting the Silicon Valley star on his show.
Things go what you could call relatively smoothly up to nearly three minutes in, until — when relaying how his memorable acceptance speech at the 2015 Critics’ Choice Awards led to him hosting the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards — Miller begins fumbling around in his suit pocket. You can clearly hear the nervous amusement in Colbert’s voice when he says, “I don’t know what’s gonna happen!”
Perhaps tame by Miller’s standards, he was just looking for the right prop to accentuate the phrase, “egg on my face!” Things kind of digress from there, and Miller never does get around to plugging Deadpool (which you have to assume was at least part of the reason he was on the show), but he does do something fun to Colbert’s face with a pair of plastic skeleton arms.
All more or less par for the course for a T.J. Miller interview.
