There are many good reasons to watch every episode of The X-Files. You can try to make sense of the mythology (and probably fail). You can feel like Kumail Nanjiani. You can recognize all the now-famous guest stars who were on the program before they were Emmy-winning actors and actresses.
Also, it’s a pretty darn good show, and a lot of that has to do with Vince Gilligan, who wrote many of The X-Files‘ best episodes (“X-Cops” is a classic). He’s also the creator of another pretty darn good show, Breaking Bad.
One’s about aliens, the other’s concerned with drugs, but there are actually a number of connections between them. Years before they played Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were Patrick Crump and David Winkle (Heisenberg really should’ve gone by Crumpwinkle). Multiple cast members crossed between the shows, actually, including Dean Norris (Hank Schrader) and Raymond Cruz (Tuco Salamanca), as well as writer Thomas Schnauz and director Michelle MacLaren. The X-Files and Breaking Bad even shared the same rental car company and brand of fake cigarettes.
