Of the many instantly iconic images in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the most memorable might be a melted helmet. Not just any melted helmet, but Darth Vader’s melted helmet that First Order commander Kylo Ren (I mean, Matt) holds with the same reverence that comic book readers do Action Comics #1.
In case that sentence wasn’t nerdy enough for you, here’s an even nerdier one: How can Vader’s helmet look like that when it actually looks like this?

The photo comes courtesy of David Prowse, the man who gave Vader his intimating physical presence in the original Star Wars trilogy. It’s amazing how much the Ewoks cleaned up the helmet after Luke burned it in effigy all those decades ago. I’d love to see the scene where Kylo went to town on those mini-bears to retrieve it. Clearly, that’s why it’s so hairy.
Dead Ewok fuzz. Must’ve missed that episode of Star Wars: Ewoks. #YubNub
