When the latest trailer for Suicide Squad, fans were given the best look yet at what to expect from the upcoming DC film. Perhaps we just liked things going boom while the wailing strains of “Bohemian Rhapsody” played in the background, but it was easily the best glimpse of what was to come. It looked fun. One of the most common complaints about the DC cinematic universe usually boils down to issues with the somber tone of their films, and Suicide Squad is starting to feel like a giant middle finger to anyone stuck in that way of thinking.
YouTuber Robert Jones decided to take that formula and apply it to another band of morally ambiguous brawlers who are a bit overshadowed by the more clean cut superteam. It’s not hard to draw parallels between Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad, and both teams look pretty good shown against Freddie Mercury’s thunderous pipes. More than anything, though, this video serves as a welcome reminder of how great Guardians of the Galaxy is. Seriously, who thought that a talking raccoon and a sentient tree would be so badass?
DC may be dealing with Jai Courtney, charisma vacuum, instead of Chris Pratt, charisma machine, but I for one am hoping that Suicide Squad has the same dark horse success as its Marvel counterpart.
