In a world where Chinese Democracy is nearly a decade old, Dr. Dre actually released a new album, and original cast members from Star Wars came back to Star Wars sh*t up, is it really that impossible to believe that the long-teased Bill & Ted threequel will finally get off the ground? Well, kinda. We’ve been writing about Bill & Ted Part 3 since the start of the 2010s (SIMPLER DAYS) with the occasional update popping up as the years go by.
So where are we at in April 2016 when it comes to the return of William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. and “Ted” Theodore Logan? Back in 2015, Alex Winter (aka Ted) said he, Keanu, and the original screenwriters were actively trying to get the film made. Now, in a recent interview with Forbes, Winter has given an update that suggests things are chugging along slowly toward the goal.
It’s looking good. This is Hollywood so I don’t believe it’s happening until it’s coming out on VOD but we’re all working on the film everyday at the moment in terms of the pre-prep type work so it’s an active project. Hopefully we’ll be shooting it shortly.
Once again, Winter stresses that the film will have Reeves (“How the **** would we make it if he wasn’t on board?”) and could start filming at the end of the year or the start of next year. Would you like to know a bit about the script? Of course you would.
We’ve been working on it for, like, six years. We’re knee deep in the script, it’s been written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon who wrote the first two, they are fantastic writers, and the script is great. We have a script, we have a director, we have a studio – we’re just trying to nail down a start date.
Maybe the third film will feature a trip back in time to Universal Studios to stop Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure from being such a nightmare.
At the moment, Winter is at work on another project as well. The 50-year-old actor/director is currently prepping the documentary Who the F*@% is Frank Zappa.
