Marlins Star Giancarlo Stanton Is Working Out In A Chewbacca Mask For ‘Star Wars’ Day

If you don’t know who Giancarlo Stanton is, please allow for a short, little primer. Stanton, the right fielder for the Miami Marlins, is one of the most dynamic young players in Major League Baseball, a fearsome monster of a power hitter who is best known for a truckload of mammoth home runs. At the tender age of 26, the 6-foot-6, 249-pound Stanton has already cranked 189 homers and posted a career slugging percentage of .909, astronomical numbers that surely went a long way toward the Marlins rewarding him with a whopping 13-year, $325 million contract after the 2014 season.

Stanton is more than just a destroyer of baseballs, though. He’s also a pretty funny dude and that side of him came shining through on his Instagram account on Wednesday in a post celebrating ‘Star Wars Day,’ as he channeled everyone’s favorite Wookiee, Chewbacca.

Nice. The combination of dexterity, lithe quickness and Wookiee wails really make the video, don’t they? And given how physically imposing Chewie has always been, Stanton makes perfect sense to play him should anyone ever decide to remake the iconic space opera with MLB stars in all the roles.

Stanton went on to blast his first homer of the month, a two-run shot, in the Marlins’ game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix on Wednesday night. Perhaps his intense Wookiee training will propelled him?
