All throughout this week, Fox News hyped Megyn Kelly’s interview with Donald Trump as Must-See TV. They were finally going to have it out, after Kelly grilled Trump on his sexist comments, and he all but threatened her. Not to mention the bimbo tweets. So, just how brutal, epic, legendary, and other words the Internet uses to describe John Oliver clips was the sit-down?

As we wrote at the time, Trump “couldn’t have been a bigger pussycat.”

The interview was less a Jean Valjean vs. Javert clash than two people who were too worried about their #brand to say anything remarkable, let alone honest. Or to quote The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, “What the hell was that? This was sold as a bloodbath, but in the end it turned out to be one of those couples baths that only exists in the Cialis commercials.”

Kelly got Trump to admit that he has regrets about certain comments he’s made in the past, but she didn’t press any further, even when “John Miller” revealed, “You make a mistake, you go forward, and you can correct the mistake, but to look back and say, ‘Gee whiz, I wish I hadn’t done this or that,’ I don’t think that’s good. In a certain way, I don’t even think that’s healthy.”

Noah was incredulous. “You just move on?” he asked. “That’s like if the producers of The Jinx heard Robert Durst say, ‘I killed them all’ and were just like, ‘Great. So what was it like growing up in Scarsdale?’ ” Noah was especially disappointed at Kelly for not interrogating Trump on his sexist attacks.

“I can’t believe this,” he said, “but Megyn Kelly just got negged by Donald Trump. He repeatedly insulted her and then all of a sudden switched it up with a little charm and she is all smiles… I know that Trump may be a torturing, Muslim-disparaging horseman of the apocalypse, but don’t forget, when he’s president and it’s all going to sh*t, we’ll all get to look at that smile.”

Kelly responded to Noah on Twitter.

This is what it’s going to be like until Election Day. Thanks… not Obama?
