James Corden is getting a little mileage out of his hosting gig at Sunday’s Tony Awards, getting a few of Broadway’s biggest names to help him with a new Carpool Karaoke. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Jane Krakowski all hop in Corden’s fan to sing a selection of Broadway hits, including one from Miranda’s hit Hamilton.
Once Mcdonald, Ferguson, and Krakowski join the group, Corden busts out some “Seasons of Love” from Rent and one of the Four Seasons big hits from Jersey Boys. They cap entire thing off with a very spirited rendition of “One Day More” from Les Miserables, with Corden showing off his pipes a bit.
It’s a little unfair to compare this to the other Carpool Karaoke installments, especially since it’s a Broadway group effort. That said, it ranks high up with Adele and Sia. I’m still waiting on the Eddie Money edition of the segment, but that’s probably just me. He’s likely been jumping into different cabs and just singing to anybody that will listen, hoping one is Corden. One day I can only hope it is actually him and a dream comes true.
Until then, I guess Audra McDonald and Lin-Manuel Miranda will have to do.
