There are certain people that are simply magnetic. You know the type of person and have encountered at least one or two of them in your life (If you haven’t already, you will. Trust me). If you were to ask me who in Hollywood seems to have that sort of magnetism, the name Idris Elba probably wouldn’t be far from my tongue. Just about everything that he does has this added weight and seriousness to it, from Stringer Bell in The Wire to Heimdall in the Thor and Avengers flicks to the straight-laced boss in The Office. The refusal to cast him as James Bond seems petty, silly, and ridiculous at this point, but what can you do?
What he can do is apparently star alongside the ever-radiant Kate Winslet in what sounds like a film version of Lost without smoke monsters, hatches, or endless plot holes. Variety reports that Elba and Winslet are slated to star in the romantic drama The Mountain Between Us. The film, based on the 2010 novel by Charles Martin, will star Winslet as a successful writer and Elba as a surgeon waiting to catch a flight, only for their flight to get cancelled. Both are antsy to get to their destination, so they hire a charter plane, only for the pilot to have a heart attack, sending the plane crashing into the High Uintas Wilderness and forcing the two to rely on each other to escape. Of course, a relationship is kindled along the way despite complications.
All of this will be wrapped up by director Hany Abu-Assad, best known for Paradise Now and Omar, who will be trying to rein in the hopefully out-of-control chemistry between Elba and Winslet.
