While preparing for their match against Venezuela in the Copa America tournament, the Mexican national soccer team was using the Houston Texans facilities for practice. And naturally, Texans Pro Bowler J.J. Watt decided to make an appearance and surprise them.
American football has a relatively big presence in Mexico as a minor sport, and Houston is only 360 miles or so from the Mexican border. Still, I can’t say I expected the Mexican national team to have any idea who J.J. Watt is, or be able recognize him quickly. He’s a star, and he is one of the sport’s most marketable athletes, but he’s not quite to the level of a Tom Brady or Cam Newton.
Turns out that they not only know Watt, but the team completely lost it when the Texans star showed up.
Hey, @miseleccionmx, let us introduce you to @JJWatt.
We think you'll like him. #SomosTexans

One player in particular, Mexican and Bayer Leverkusen forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, is apparently a massive Watt fan and almost passed out when he saw Watt, despite the fact that Hernández is a pretty big deal himself in the soccer world.
On Twitter, Chicharito said on Twitter that meeting Watt was “a dream come true” and he even got a signed jersey from the American football star.
Un sueño hecho realidad… Gracias @JJWatt !!!

The Texans are set to play the Raiders in Mexico City this upcoming season, and it’s a safe bet that Hernández will be in attendance to watch his favorite player pulverize poor Derek Carr.
