Today, Christian Combs, aka King Combs, made his official rap debut. King Combs is the Bad Boy’s newest signee, even though the feat that probably wasn’t too difficult since his dad, Diddy, owns the label. As a member of rap royalty, it stands to reason that the rollout for him would be something a bit more grandiose than others. So, it’s no surprise that King dropped not one but two new songs today.
The first song, “One for Me,” is a remix of the SWV’s “You’re the One” and finds the younger Combs thinking about “giving it all up” for a special young lady. The second song is a remix of Queen Pen’s “Party Ain’t a Party” simply titled “Party.” On the latter track, King sounds like a polished emcee which overshadows the fact he’s only 18-years-old. The two songs have a combined play amount of over 66,000 on SoundCloud at the time of this post and it’s likely that both will receive a few hundred thousand plays before it’s all said and done.
Only time will tell how King Combs is able to carve his own niche and get out of the looming shadow of his father. While what’s here may not break any new ground, it’s certainly worth a listen. One hopes that with his official entry into the rap industry, the same motivation that drove his father to be a hip-hop legend can be found in his son.
