The list of East Mississippi Community College alumni that have played professional football is longer than anyone would expect, as it includes the likes of LaGarrette Blount and Quinton Dial. Additionally, the school has had Ole Miss starting quarterbacks Chad Kelly and Bo Wallace come through its ranks.
With all this talent, it’s not a surprise that the program is a four-time JUCO national champion and a breeding ground for Division I players. However, as the new Netflix docu-series “Last Chance U” explores, the players on East Mississippi are usually there for a reason, as bad grades, legal troubles, or some other issue has prevented them from sticking at Division I programs. This leads to athletes playing for the Lions with the hopes of righting the ship.
The series follows the players and coaches throughout the 2015 season, as cameras were given unprecedented access to what went on behind the scenes. The team was also involved in a huge brawl during the season against Mississippi Delta, which will assuredly play a big part on the show.
If you don’t know how East Mississippi’s season ended, I won’t spoil it for you, but the show looks extremely interesting and should fill any college football fan’s fix as we wait for the season to start up in a few weeks. The six-part series will be available on Netflix starting July 29.
